I was raised to study the Jewish roots of my Christianity. Why? Because as a Christian that is what I have. We are grafted into Judaism, Judaism is the ROOT of Christianity. I honestly believe, and have found out from personal experience, that when I read my Bible from some “Christian Perspectives”, it really doesn’t make much sense. However, when I read the Bible from a Jewish perspective, so many little details and a deeper understanding takes place. I also look at the Bible from this perspective because Jesus/Yeshua was a Jew, and He was observant Jew. How can we understand His teachings if we don’t know who He was or Is? Just because He died on the cross doesn’t mean He stopped being Jewish.
What is Replacement Theology (a.k.a. Supersessionism, Dispensationalism, Covenant Theology)? Obviously, with so many different names there are differing opinions about all the details. I will cover the basics…
This theology teaches that Israel, the Jewish people, and the land have been replaced by the “Christian Church”. The Jewish people are no longer a “chosen people”, and God does not have specific future plans for the nation of Israel. Since the day of Pentecost the term “Israel” refers to “The Church”. Also, the promises, covenants, and blessings given to Israel, no longer apply to the Jews, but now apply to “The Church”. Contrarily, all the curses remain on the Jews.
Because of this FALSE theology, it has really messed up Biblical teaching and the Christian World View.
Is Replacement Theology one of the tools of Satan? Is it the cause of Anti-Semitism in this country and around the world? Is it why the American public is so willing to go along with our Government on it’s treatment of Israel? Is this why MANY of our Presidents and the public are o.k. with dividing the land?
Is this why most of the World wants to destroy the Jewish people? Does that sound familiar at all? It should, if you read the Bible. Satan has made this his agenda from the beginning. I believe Satan is using this FALSE teaching to bring hatred and destruction towards the Jews, to bring all nations against Israel. Both of these End Times scriptures are a confirmation to me about this.
Zechariah 12:2-3 The Lord says, “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.
Joel 3:1-2 “In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.
Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you (Israel), and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” I fully believe that God has and is bringing Judgment to America because of this. William Koenig’s book Eye to Eye gives in great detail, with undeniable facts, the consequences that have happened to our nation when we persuade Israel to divide their land, or even say anything bad about or against Israel.
Is Replacement Theology turning people to Islam? Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world right now. Joel Richardson’s The Islamic Anti-Christ (a must read) states that as many as 60,000 Americans RAISED IN CHRISTIAN HOMES, convert to Islam annually. (emphasis mine) The Quran is plain and clear about destroying the Jews and Christians. This “Religion of Peace” is responsible for over 90% of all the fighting happening in the world. So yes, I think Replacement Theology is a contributing factor. Especially when you consider the fact that most churches take the Jewishness out of Jesus. Some Churches have gotten rid of the Old Testament completely, which is really sad, because you can’t understand the New Testament without the Old and you can’t understand the Old Testament without the New. They complete each other. Jesus/Yeshua says in Matt 5:17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.”
Did you know that God’s entire redemptive plan is laid out in the Jewish FEASTS? This failure of teaching about the feasts is a huge huge mistake. The Jewish life revolves around these feasts. There is so much beautiful symbolism and deep meaning to OUR roots that is being missed completely. The feasts point to Yeshua’s birth (in Spring), the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Summer, and they point to when he will return. Did you know that Jesus/Yeshua fulfilled the spring and summer feasts but hasn’t fulfilled the fall feasts yet? I personally believe he will return in the fall because of the understanding of the feasts.
If you believe in Replacement Theology, you are missing out on understanding End Times prophecies that have been fulfilled, and what prophesies will be fulfilled. The WHOLE TRIBULATION is based on the Jewish people. It is to bring them to salvation. In fact from Genesis to Revelation the WHOLE Bible is about the Jews.
There are several verses in the Bible that people use to claim Replacement Theology as truth, but I have read them and I can totally see that these verses are being taken out of context. It’s like they were reading through the Bible trying to find verses to go along with what THEY (man) wanted to be the truth, not what is actual TRUTH from God. If you read the text surrounding these verses you will realize they are sorely out of context and actually mean the opposite of Replacement Theology.
There are many scriptures that refute this theology, but I want to focus on the section in Romans chapters 9,10,11. Paul clearly refutes Replacement Theology, if you read all three chapters right in a row you will get the full context of what Paul is saying. For the sake of length of this blog, I will just be showing you the key points in chp 11. I will be emphasizing key verses in bold or underlining.
Romans 11 “In that case, I (Paul) say, isn’t it that God has repudiated (rejected) his people?” Heaven forbid! For I myself am a son of Isra’el, from the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not repudiated his people, whom he chose in advance. Or don’t you know what the Old Testament says about Elijah? He pleads with God against Isra’el, 3 “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars, and I’m the only one left, and now they want to kill me too!” 4 But what is God’s answer to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not knelt down to Ba‘al.” 5 It’s the same way in the present age: there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 (Now if it is by grace, it is accordingly not based on legalistic works; if it were otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.) 7 What follows is that Isra’el has not attained the goal for which she is striving. The ones chosen have obtained it, but the rest have been made stonelike, 8 just as the Old Testament says, “God has given them a spirit of dullness — eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, right down to the present day.” 9 And David says, “Let their dining table become for them a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a punishment. 10 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can’t see, with their backs bent continually.”
11 “In that case, I say, isn’t it that they have stumbled with the result that they have permanently fallen away?” Heaven forbid! Quite the contrary, it is by means of their stumbling that the deliverance has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Moreover, if their stumbling is bringing riches to the world — that is, if Isra’el’s being placed temporarily in a condition less favored than that of the Gentiles is bringing riches to the latter — how much greater riches will Isra’el in its fullness bring them! 13 However, to those of you who are Gentiles I say this: since I myself am an emissary sent to the Gentiles, I make known the importance of my work 14 in the hope that somehow I may provoke some of my own people to jealousy and save some of them! 15 For if their casting Jesus/Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean? It will be life from the dead!
16 Now if the bread offered as first fruits is holy, so is the whole loaf. And if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you — a wild olive — were grafted in among them and have become equal sharers in the rich root of the olive tree, 18 then don’t boast as if you were better than the branches! However, if you do boast, remember that you are not supporting the root, the root is supporting you. 19 So you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 True, but so what? They were broken off because of their lack of trust. However, you keep your place only because of your trust. So don’t be arrogant; on the contrary, be terrified! 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he certainly won’t spare you! 22 So take a good look at God’s kindness and his severity: on the one hand, severity toward those who fell off; but, on the other hand, God’s kindness toward you — provided you maintain yourself in that kindness! Otherwise, you too will be cut off!
23 Moreover, the others, if they do not persist in their lack of trust, Jews and given to “The Church”, but the Jews still get the curses, seems like a pretty BOASTFUL statement to me. Therefore you are at risk of being a branch that is cut off by God! This grieves me, because the majority of will be grafted in; because God is able to graft them back in. 24 For if you were cut out of what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree!
25 For, brothers, I want you to understand this truth which God formerly concealed but has now revealed, so that you won’t imagine you know more than you actually do. It is that stoniness, to a degree, has come upon Isra’el, until the Gentile world enters in its fullness; 26 and that it is in this way that all Isra’el will be saved. As the Old Testament says, “Out of Zion will come the Redeemer; he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob 27and this will be my covenant with them, . . . when I take away their sins.”
28 With respect to the Good News they are hated for your sake. But with respect to being chosen they are loved for the Patriarchs’ sake, 29 for God’s free gifts and his calling are irrevocable. 30 Just as you yourselves were disobedient to God before but have received mercy now because of Isra’el’s disobedience; 31 so also Isra’el has been disobedient now, so that by your showing them the same mercy that God has shown you, they too may now receive God’s mercy. 32 For God has shut up all mankind together in disobedience, in order that he might show mercy to all. 33 O the depth of the riches and the wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments! How unsearchable are his ways!34 For, ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord? Who has been his counselor?’ 35 Or, ‘Who has given him anything and made him pay it back?’ 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
According to this section of scriptures if you believe in Replacement Theology, then that makes you a boaster that Paul warns us about in vs. 18-23. A theology that claims that all the blessings are taken away from the Jews and given to “The Church”, but the Jews still get the curses, seems like a pretty BOASTFUL statement to me. Therefore you are at risk of being a branch that is cut off by God! This grieves me, because the majority of Americans, and the world for that matter, believe Replacement Theology to be truth. That is a lot of branches being cut off.
Therefore based on these scriptures, we can see that God has not abandoned the Jewish people. His calling of the Jewish people is irrevocable. God’s prophets tell us that the Jews would be scattered amongst the nations. They also tell us that the dry bones would be brought back to life and that they would be restored to the land of Israel. This was fulfilled in 1948. In 1967, all of Jerusalem was restored to the Jewish people. I believe that based on other End Times prophesies, the Third Temple will soon be built. Therefore these scriptures and their fulfillment refute Replacement Theology and show us that the Jewish people are in the center of God’s will.
